TIN certificate mandatory for several services from April 1, 2026
Under the provisions of the Inland Revenue (Amendment) Act of 2026, a Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN) certificate will become a mandatory requirement for several key services & transactions in Sri Lanka starting April 1, 2026.
- Open any account at any financial institution
- Obtain approval for a building plan
- Register a motor vehicle
- Renew the licence of a motor vehicle
- Register a land or title to a land
- Register a business
- Transfer shares of a company incorporated in Sri Lanka, by the transferee & transferor
- Obtain a credit card
